Clinical Services
In its commitment to excellence, Amsterdam employs a full-time medical director, other full-time and part-time Board-certified physicians and full-time geriatric nurse practitioners to address the medical needs of each resident. Physicians are top-flight professionals and include a full complement of specialists from fields including oncology, cardiology, neurology, ophthalmology, gastroenterology, pulmonology, gynecology and rheumatology, as well as orthopedics and physiatry. Amsterdam's affiliation with the Hospital for Special Surgery affords its residents superior short- and long-term physical, occupational, and speech and hearing therapy. Amsterdam's physicians hold faculty and staff appointments at the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Cornell Medical College, should hospitalization become necessary.
If a resident requires hospice care, Amsterdam is affiliatied with the Jacob Perlow
Hospice at Beth Israel Medical Center. In addition to special attention to needs
such as pain control and skin care, residents requiring these services receive increased attention from hospice staff. The result is to help residents feel more comfortable
while at Amsterdam.
Professionally trained, caring nurses and certified nursing assistants are focused on the ongoing needs of the residents and
daily care for the mind, body and spirit of each individual. To ensure the highest level of support and functioning for each resident, nursing is provided 24-hours a day. RNs, LPNs and certified nursing assistants are
all part of the nursing team. Specialty nursing services, such as rehabilitation nursing, infection control and wound management are provided
as needed.
